Spread 157 – Ranch Romances

01 February 2014

Vintage magazine cover, tape, hockey game ticket, found ephemera, handmade paper, decals, matt medium, white gesso, Tim Holtz Distress Inks, matt varnish, tape, pencil.

This is the cover of one of my latest journals. The wonderful Ranch Romances is a vintage magazine cover from my wonderful friend Elise. The rest of the cover is found bits from my life. Friends bring me things they think I will like for my journals. The metal number 1 on the cover is from a friend who brought me a wine bottle with the “1” as a label. It may change a bit over time as I add found items or paint over bits of this or that. Journal covers are important to me. They make my journal feel like it’s mine. I like that I can look at one of my covers and remember a specific period of time in my life, like a snapshot.  You can see some other journal covers here:

Super! There is a feast for the eyes here. The two men kissing…is that a stencil that someone plastered all over LA. I think I know or heard about it.
