5 Minute Collages

I am always open to fresh inspiration, and to learn and be challenged. Keep growing. I am taking Randel Plowman’s online class, Experiments in Collage. Randel has written a wonderful book “The Collage Workbook”. It is full of inspiration and techniques for collage. The Experiments in Collage class is full now but he will be having another class sign up soon. These are for our first assignment, 5 minute collages. You set a timer and you only have 5 minutes to do each collage. Each collage is 3″X5″ on cold press paper.  Click on each image for a larger view. I can already see changes I would make in the next ones. They are very fun and challenging to do. I can’t wait for our next assignment.
These are great. I love the idea of quick collages — stops the overthinking from happening.

These are so amazing….now I must try it. I’ve never done anything in 5 minutes with the exception of eat a hamburger!
I bought Randal Plowman’s book when it first came out but I haven’t done any practice. These turned out great! Have you seen iHanna’s collages? These remind me of hers although they are quite different. Maybe it’s just the collage technique that looks similar. Fun!

These are great fun, Brian! I have Randel’s book and have tried these myself. Unfortunately, I frequently find myself wanting to add some additional piece(s) in the first few seconds after the timer goes off. It takes real discipline to stay on-task, and STOP(!), and move on to the next 3 x 5!
I love these too Brian- It was so fun to do this project for the class- I need to try to do this more often- wonder about a time limit for a journal spread- like 15 minutes… could be interesting.
Going to look for the book and I may set the timer and see how I do. I imagine I’d have to leave the “thinking” at the door and just explore. It’d be a good experiment for me to do this every day for a week….Whee!
